LIKE most adventurous and ultimately worthwhile ventures, Crest Timber Products experienced humble beginnings. A converted chicken shed provided us with a starter ‘home’ way back in 1982 – and we haven’t looked back since!
While Ebony and Ivory, and Eye of the Tiger, were topping the pop charts, three young and determined woodworkers were attempting to carve a niche for themselves in the world of kitchens and bedrooms.
From the Christian names of that trio of talented carpenters – Chris, Eddie and Steve – came Crest, and more than three decades on the company continues to grow from strength to strength, and the three founding directors, now enjoying the fruits of their dedicated labours in retirement, are watching on with pride and reverence as the next generation of master-craftsmen take up the challenge of providing high-quality kitchen, bedroom and bathroom doors to public and trade.
It has been a long and ambitious journey, one which took an exciting twist in January 2008 when our customer base increased to an extent that we made the switch from our Siston Common base to our Whitehall Trading Estate premises at Gerrish Avenue in Bristol, where we continue to successfully operate from today.
That new HQ of ours meant we were – and are – much better placed to meet the many varied demands of our customers, the new facility able to showcase our vast array of doors in a more engaging and effective way.
While the three founder members have taken a back seat, the business is these days run by Eddie’s son Dave and long-term employees Gary and Darren.
Their enthusiasm and dedication to the cause has ensured production continues to steadily rise, with more than 30,000 doors produced every year. Not bad for a business that began in the modest confines of that chicken shed!
